Expert Spotlight with Sabine Gerharz

Our expert in the second expert spotlight is Sabine Gerharz. Ms. Gerharz is a naturopath in Weisendorf who specializes in supporting women through menopause. Her passion is hormonal balance, with the firm belief that every woman can experience this phase of life with ease and energy, regardless of age.

Ms. Gerharz, you say with great conviction: every woman can experience menopause without discomfort, regardless of age. Many women struggling with hot flashes, sleep disturbances, or exhaustion can hardly imagine this at the moment. Where do you get this confidence from, and what do you see in your work that proves you right?

This confidence does not come from theory but from thousands of conversations with women in my practice. I repeatedly witness how symptoms improve significantly when women understand what is happening in their bodies and adjust the right levers.

Our body has an incredible ability to adapt and regain balance when we support it.

Menopause is a hormonal transition – not a disease. Our body has an incredible ability to adapt and regain balance when we support it. With hormone-friendly nutrition, sufficient nutrients, stress regulation, and a healthy lifestyle, symptoms can often be significantly alleviated. Hot flashes become less frequent, sleep improves, and energy returns.

What strengthens my conviction are the feedbacks from my patients. When women say after a few weeks or months, "I finally feel like myself again," I know: no woman is helpless in this process. She can actively contribute to experiencing menopause with more ease and energy – and use this phase of life as an opportunity to consciously reshape her life.

Your approach does not focus on individual symptoms but on the causes, on understanding your own body and hormonal balance. Why is it so crucial for women to first gain clarity about their hormonal status before making any changes?

Because without guidance, we often target the wrong lever. Many women try one supplement after another and are disappointed when their symptoms do not improve. This is usually not because the supplements are fundamentally unsuitable, but because they do not match the individual hormonal situation of the woman.

It is not only crucial which hormonal phase she is in, but especially how well her body is prepared for these changes.

Every woman experiences menopause differently. It is not only crucial which hormonal phase she is in, but especially how well her body is prepared for these changes. Nutrition, stress, sleep, exercise, nutrient supply, and hormonal balance in the years before have a great impact on how severe symptoms occur.

That is why my approach always begins with clarity. My free hormone check helps women better understand their hormonal situation and recognize the most important factors influencing their symptoms.

Because only with this understanding can nutrition, nutrients, and lifestyle be specifically adjusted. Knowledge creates security – and those who understand their body can actively influence it again, instead of being at the mercy of symptoms. That is exactly the first step back to your own strength.

Besides clarity and a good strategy, everyday life also plays a big role. Nutrition, lifestyle, and what women do to take care of themselves. How important is traditional knowledge about medicinal plants to you, as Hildegard of Bingen has always connected with women in this phase of life?

For me this traditional knowledge is a treasure that we too often overlook. Hildegard of Bingen already had a holistic view of health: she connected nutrition, medicinal plants, and the emotional level – and it is precisely this understanding that we are rediscovering today.

It is often not the big changes that make the difference, but the small habits in everyday life.

What fascinates me most about this: it is often not the big changes that make the difference, but the small habits in everyday life. Bitter substances from foods like chicory or dandelion can support digestion and liver function, berries provide valuable antioxidants, and sufficient protein is an important building block for many processes in the body.

This is exactly what my support for women is about: taking action and developing new routines step by step. The gentler and more practical these changes are for everyday life, the more sustainable their effects can be. That’s why I consciously combine the knowledge of naturopathy with a modern understanding of hormones, because this creates a holistic picture.
